Filelathe

Guide

View unknown file formats without installing software

What to do when nothing opens your file. Filelathe invents a mini-app for unfamiliar formats like EDN, YAML, and niche exports.

Try Filelathe

The usual dead end

Most “online converters” only know a fixed list of office and media types. Niche formats — Clojure EDN, odd game exports, internal configs — get a shrug or a malware-looking download mirror.

Filelathe routes known types to dedicated tools (PDF, images, CSV, trackers, …). Everything else can get a Haiku-invented mini-app: a small UI generated for that file’s shape.

What invent is good for

Invent shines for structured text and configs you want to skim: keys, tables, sections, hex/text samples. It is not a full emulator for disk images or ROMs — those are listed as planned host players separately.

Saved mini-apps can stick around in your browser so the next file of the same kind reuses a familiar layout.
