Guide
View Excel files in the browser
View .xlsx and .xls in the browser with no upload and no Excel install. The first sheet opens as a grid on your device. Free, no signup.
Open a workbook without Excel
Drop the file or use Choose file. A .xlsx opens the first sheet in the spreadsheet grid. Chart caches under xl/charts can show up as bar graphs — first series, up to 4 charts — when those caches exist. A classic .xls is an OLE BIFF file parsed with SheetJS into that same grid. A plain export can go through the .csv viewer.
Chromebook, Mac, and iPad use the same page. Choose file is the reliable picker; desktop browsers can also take a drop. No Office install.
What the grid will and will not do
You see about 100 data rows and 40 columns of the first sheet. Later sheets are not opened. Formulas are not recalculated; the cells are the values SheetJS reads. You can edit the grid and download a CSV of those cells. That download is not a new .xlsx, and the original workbook is not modified.
Classic .xls does not get the chart-cache graphs. Password-protected workbooks are not unlocked.
View vs convert
Filelathe does not upload the workbook to turn it into PDF or Google Sheets. The parse runs in the browser. An API call may use the filename, type, and samples to choose the window — see what stays local.
